28 Dec Playboys New Private Jet – Big Bunny
Few names in business are as notorious and arguably controversial as ‘Playboy’.
Founded in Chicago by none other than the infamous Hugh Heffner, in 1953 Playboy made its debut as a men’s lifestyle and entertainment magazine (famous for its nude photoshoots).
From its humble beginnings, Playboy rose to become a media empire, playing an important role in the ‘sexual revolution’ and rising to earn a spot among the most well-recognized brand names in the world.
Today, Playboy is giving us a bit of a throwback, reviving the original ‘Big Bunny’, an airplane reminiscent of 1970’s flair with a bit of glitz, glam, and yes, bunnies.
Playboy’s New Private Plane
Playboy’s new private jet embodies everything we know and love about Playboy, from the spirit of the brand, to its revitalized nostalgic 1970s look and feel.
But don’t expect your favorite bunny to hop out of the cockpit. In place of miniskirts and scantily clad models, there’s a gentleman’s library, and a popup bar with hand-blown artist made glassware.
This swanky revival, a new take on the original ‘Big Bunny’ aircraft, is known by Playboy fans as the ‘Playboy Mansion in the Sky’. The original private jet was enjoyed by the likes of Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra and other heavy hitters in their time.
Purchased in 1970 for a cool $5.5 million, Big Bunny was retired from the skies in 1975 when it was sold to Aeromexico.
Sensual Yet Elegantly Simple Exterior
Today, the NEW and improved Big Bunny is giving its predecessor a run for its money, making a big statement with its glossy black exterior and notoriously recognizable Playboy rabbit logo. Of note is that the new plane even sports the original N950PB registration number on its tail.
Stepping Inside Big Bunny
Coming aboard Big Bunny is an experience to be remembered, taking its passengers back in time to an iconic era. The interior features an elegant living room reminiscent of a gentleman’s library or cigar lounge, with custom leather sofas, and even Hefner’s own salon that’s simply over the top.
Paying homage to its roots, the new private jet is inspired by and styled similarly to the original, embodying the creative conception of both International Jet Interiors and Playboy’s own in-house design team.
According to Playboy’s VP of global brand and franchise strategy, Anna Ondaatje was quoted as saying, “One of our primary influences was, naturally, the original 1970s Big Bunny jet – the rust-colored pop-up seat in crushed velvet was directly inspired by the orange leather seats of the O.G. Big Bunny that are so immediately recognizable.”
Swanky and Sophisticated Comfort, Texture and Luxury
The interior is truly something to behold and experience, with a clear focus on texture and detail that is as unique as it is inspiring. “We intentionally chose materials that reference the era of the original Playboy jet: microsuede, crushed velvet, pressed croc, and linen. They all nod back to the early 1970s. In choosing materials we also wanted to create a multi-sensory experience. The pleasurable tactile interactions with these varied textures contribute to the overall experience of comfort, softness, and luxury”, explained Ondaatje.
A Unique Melding of 1970s Swagger with Contemporary Amenities
While we can all appreciate the 1970s ambiance and sophistication of a time once passed, modern private jet passengers have needs and demands much different than those of passengers in the ‘70s. But not to worry. Don’t let looks deceive you, the new Big Bunny private jet features a full array of contemporary amenities a globe-trekking modern-day professional could ask for.
Fully outfitted with innovative technology solutions, Wifi and more, this jet is ready to help passengers tackle any in-flight challenge, from boardroom meetings to closing business deals or simply getting some much-needed R&R before landing.
Amenities Abound Aboard Big Bunny
The newly minted interior brings together the best elements of the ‘70s, with a flair for the modern lifestyle. From the emerald-hued natural stone countertops, to the crocodile-embossed leather wall coverings and custom herringbone floor coverings, every detail of this jet is set to impress. But it doesn’t stop there. Even the pilot seats get some love with leather and sheepskin coverings.
Venture further into the interior and behold a SkyTheater-designed multimedia cinema experience. Prefer something more subdued yet still creative and thought-provoking? Relax and sip cognac while treated to a rotating art collection from none other than Playboy’s own archives.
Those wishing to unwind with a good book will appreciate the library area, outfitted with two mohar-upholstered sofas draped with cashmere jacquard embroidered blankets.
Once you’ve recharged for some excitement, enjoy the multicolor nightclub inspired lighting and disco-themed party settings that bring the 1970s roaring back to life.
Worked Up an Appetite?
Hugh himself was famously known for his appetite for roast beef and lobster diners mid-air. Keeping in line with this tradition, the new Big Bunny features a full dining experience, complete with bespoke tableware, hand-blown glass and decadent meals set to impress even the most discerning of guests. No small detail is left unembellished, with custom embroidered N950PB napkins and gold-rimmed Polish porcelain.
According to Ondaatje, “We love the idea of bringing details into the flight experience that would never be expected—even serving up a three-tiered seafood tower!”
And when you get thirsty, a pop-up bar emerges flawlessly from within the cabin’s several credenzas, offering a wide range of upscale beverages to wet the palate.
Of the design, Ondaatje went on to say, The design of the plane itself allows guests to interact with and enjoy the space in a multitude of ways depending on where (and when) in the aircraft you are. It doesn’t just take you somewhere—being on the plane is a journey in and of itself.” In other words, this is one private jet experience that you won’t want to sleep through.
