About Cartagena Private Jet Charter

Cartagena is a beautiful city situated on the Caribbean Coast in northern Colombia. Its well-preserved Colonial center was founded nearly 500 years ago and is surrounded by a massive thick wall. The city is perfect for history buffs and those who enjoy the unique architecture, but it also boasts a temperate and pleasant climate any time of the year.

It’s one of the lesser-visited cities in South America and, as a result, can be a bit of a hidden gem. Overall the city is very safe although it is becoming a more trendy destination for tourists.

For longer domestic trips or intercontinental air charter, such as Cartagena to Los Angeles, or even Seattle to Cartagena. we suggest super midsize jet, such as the Challenger 300 or Hawker 1000. These are designed for longer domestic flights and even light transatlantic travel, with a typical passenger capacity of 9 people.

Large Jets

Best Private Airports in Cartagena

There are two airport options for private jets in Cartagena: Rafael Núñez International Airport and Ernesto Cortissoz International Airport.

  •     Rafael Núñez International Airport (CTG/SKCG) is the most popular option. It’s approximately 15 minutes from the old city of Cartagena. While it’s also the primary airport for commercial airlines, it is the best choice for private jet travelers versus the alternative. The airport has an FBO for private jet passengers with a family-friendly lounge area and showering facility. Extended parking for private aircraft is relatively easy to obtain.
  •     Ernesto Cortissoz International Airport (BAQ/SKBQ) is not often used to land private jets but is a viable option if necessary. Located a two-hour drive further away from Cartagena than Rafael Núñez International Airport, it’s fine in a pinch but not ideal.

About Cartagena

The colonial city of Cartagena was founded in 1533 and was initially known as Cartagena de Indjas. It’s the first Spanish city in the Americas. Cartagena began as a port for the export of Peruvian silver. After being continually ransacked and pillaged, a wall was built to protect it, although it continued to be targeted by pirates during the wall’s 200-year construction. The city earned its nickname, La Heroica, after enduring siege after siege.

Today the area within Cartagena’s walls is called Centro, but other historic neighborhoods of La Matuna, San Diego, and Getsemaní are also interesting to visit. Walking through the city center is relatively safe, and exploring the 234 streets can be done in a day. Not to be missed is the San Felipe Castle with its panoramic views and multitude of tunnels. It’s one of the most impressive fortresses ever built.

It’s worth wandering the city’s cobblestone streets, enjoying dinner on a rooftop bar, or dancing until dawn at one of many nightclubs. But anyone seeking a beach getaway for a day or longer should try one of the nearby archipelagos. Rosario Islands and San Bernardo are filled with a variety of unique islands to fit anyone’s taste.

Although it’s not among the top three largest cities in Colombia, Cartagena remains the country’s largest port. The city is on Colombia Standard Time, which is equivalent to Eastern Standard Time.

Weather In Cartagena

The temperature in Cartagena doesn’t fluctuate very much. Because of its tropical climate, temperatures usually stay consistently in the 70s and 80s. The driest months are December through April and the rainiest season is May through June. The city gets quite wet in the rainy season and gets 40 inches of rain annually.

January through March is the ideal time to visit because of the lack of rain and temperate weather. It can be a bit windy being along the coast, but a breeze is usually welcome with the warm climate.

Luxury Hotels In Cartagena

After arriving via luxury jet, why not stay in the most luxurious accommodations in the city?

The best area to stay in Cartagena is within the walled city. The site is filled with boutique hotels and historic buildings. There are plenty of shops and restaurants nearby, and everything is steps from your hotel room. Centro is also the most popular and liveliest area of town as a result.

For those preferring more modern amenities, the high rise districts of Bocagrande and El Laguito in the commercial center have plenty of shopping. It’s also a relatively easy walk or cab ride into Centro to visit the historical sites or to get a taste of the activity.

Zona Norte is a lesser-known and quieter area with more excellent, exclusive beaches and resort-style hotels. It’s rather far from the action in the rest of Cartagena, but an alternative for those seeking a quieter or more exclusive vacation.
